EBE summer residency: two composers invited

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

The votes are in! We have received some incredibly interesting and inspiring propsals for our summer residency cooperation and the EBE committee had a hard time selecting the winners. They are:

Fredrik Olofsson and

Daniel Iglesia

Their proposals convinced the jury to invite them to the EBE summer residency in Hamburg in July.

There will be EBE concerts later this year where the new pieces written by and with these two composers wil be premiered — look out for further information here or join our mailing list (goto ‘contact’).

2009 summer Residency with the EBE — call for proposals

Friday, May 15th, 2009

The European Bridges Ensemble in collaboration with the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and the Hungarian Computer Music Foundation is inviting project proposals for its 2009 summer residency and the 2009/2010 concert season.

The European Bridges Ensemble (EBE) is looking for an artist(*) or a team of artists interested in working together to create a network piece. Its duration should be between 6 to 12 minutes.

The artist(s) chosen will work with the ensemble during the summer residency in Hamburg, Germany between July 11 and 25, 2009. The result will be presented at the 2009 Hamburg Klangwerktage festival in late November as well as at the Music in the Global Village conference in Budapest in early December of 2009.

The ensemble:

The ensemble consists of 5 electronic musicians (Kai Niggemann, Germany; Adam Siska, Hungary; Johannes Kretz, Austria; Andrea Szigetvári, Hungary; Ivana Ognjanovic, Serbia) performing on standard and/or alternate controllers, a video artists (Stewart Collinson, UK) and a conductor (Georg Hajdu, Germany).

Prize:

The ensemble will pay for travel, accommodation as well as a stipend of 1000 Euros (for individual) or 2000 Euros (for a team of two and more) for the Hamburg residency.

Application:

The applicants are supposed to send a portfolio either by mail or email containing

  • samples of previous works demonstrating expertise both in live music and video processing (knowledge of network/Internet music is an asset but not an absolute requirement.)
  • a detailed description of the proposed project including a statement on the use of alternate controllers, video and audio.
  • a CV

Requirements:

Workshops during the residency will provide expertise in how to use the Quintet.net–the environment the European Bridges Ensemble uses in their performances. Advanced knowledge of Cycling ’74′s Max programming environment is a necessity. We particularly encourage the use of Percussa’s AudioCubes of which the ensemble owns six.

Deadline:  March 10, 2009

Notification: The applicants will be notified about their status no later than May 1, 2009.

Jury:

The jury consists of Andrew Gerzso (IRCAM, Paris), Pedro Rebelo (SARC, Belfast) and members of the European Bridges Ensemble

This project was made possible by a Culture 2007 multi-annual cooperation grant by the European Commission. The name of the project is CO-ME-DI-A (Collaboration and Mediation in the Digital Arts). Project partners are IRCAM (Paris), SARC (Belfast), Casa Paganini (Genoa), CIANT (Prague), MUG/IEM (Graz), HfMT (Hamburg), HCMF (Budapest)
